Fulbright U.S. Scholar Awards in the Mediterranean
by Kailey Smaczniak
Dear Colleagues,
The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program offers teaching, research or combination teaching and research awards in over 125 countries for the 2018-2019 academic year. Opportunities are available for college and university faculty as well as for professionals and independent scholars.
Awards that may be of interest to the H-Mediterranean community include the following:
Cyprus: All Disciplines
With a culturally-rich and historically-complicated heritage spanning over 8,000 years, Cyprus is a fascinating country in which to conduct research, both historical as well as modern, in any discipline.
Greece-Spain Joint Teaching/Research Award
Greece and Spain share historical and cultural links dating back to ancient times. Applications will be considered in all fields, with special emphasis on disciplines related to Greece and Spain including archaeology, preservation of cultural heritage, tourism, and the arts.
Israel: Senior Scholar All-Disciplines Fellowship
Israel is open to projects in all disciplines. An example of a past successful project dealt with “Roman Impact on a Multi-Ethnic Region: Achziv (Ecdippa) in the Western Galilee during the Roman Period.”
Malta
Malta is keen to promote its role as the crossroads between Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa and is open to projects in all disciplines including art, linguistics, and political science.
Tunisia
Bordering the Mediterranean, this award to Tunisia provides opportunities in all disciplines, with a preference for American Studies, Business Administration, and Computer and Information Science.
For eligibility factors, detailed application guidelines and review criteria, please consult our website. You may also wish to register for one of our webinars or join My Fulbright, a resource center for applicants interested in the program. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and the current competition will close on August 1, 2017.
We are happy to answer any questions you may have regarding the opportunities listed above or the Fulbright Scholar Program in general.
