The Graduate School for East and Southeast European Studies (Munich and Regensburg, Germany) invites applications for following full-time positions (40,1 hours per week) for further qualification beginning on November 1, 2017 limited to a fixed 2 year term:
- 1 postdoctoral position in Social Sciences and Eastern Europe Studies
- 1 postdoctoral position in History / Historical Anthropology of Southeastern Europe
- 1 postdoctoral position in Jewish Languages, Literatures and Cultures in Eastern Europe
These positions are paid according to the German pay scale 13 TV-L.

The Graduate School for East and Southeast European Studies is a joint programme by the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) Munich and the University of Regensburg funded by the German Research Foundation DFG within the Excellence Initiative.
Research at the Graduate School is conducted in three broad interdisciplinary fields:
- Origins and Forms of Social and Political Change
- Cultural Systems
- Infrastructure, Migration and Transfer of Knowledge
Research at the Graduate School focuses particularly on interrelations and interdependencies between East and Southeast Europe and other regions of the world.
In the context of its primary focus on East and Southeast Europe, the Graduate School draws on the following disciplines: History, Literary and Language Studies, Art History, Theatre Studies, Social Sciences, and Law. In the context of cross-regional comparisons and transfer studies the School’s expertise in Area Studies is complemented by insights from Chinese, Japanese and North American Studies.

Currently, the Graduate School for East and Southeast European Studies offers the following postdoctoral positions:
a) 1 Postdoctoral Position in Social Sciences and Eastern Europe Studies
The Graduate School for East and Southeast European Studies invites applications for a postdoctoral position in Social Sciences and Eastern Europe Studies. This is a full time post, fixed term for 2 years beginning November 1, 2017. The position is remunerated according to TV-L salary scale E13. The postdoctoral position is attached to the chair for Social Sciences and Eastern Europe Studies at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München. The Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München is one of the largest and most prestigious universities in Germany. The Graduate School for East and Southeast European Studies is organized jointly by the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich and the Universität Regensburg.
Duties:
The postdoctoral position is attached to the chair for Social Sciences and Eastern Europe Studies at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München. It includes contributing to the Graduate School’s academic program as well as a teaching obligation of two semester hours per week.
Requirements:
- university MA/Diploma
- excellent relevant PhD in Political Sciences, Sociology or Political Economics
- research experience on East and Southeastern Europe
- development of an innovative postdoctoral project
- willingness to participate in interdisciplinary work
- ability to work in a team

The Graduate School for East and Southeast European Studies invites applications for postdoctoral position (f/m) for research in the field of History / Historical Anthropology of Southeastern Europe for further qualification beginning on November 1, 2017. The full-time position (40,1 hours per week) is limited to a fixed 2 year term. The position is paid according to the German pay scale 13 TV-L.
Job specification:
The postdoctoral researcher will
- contribute to the academic program of the Graduate School for East and Southeast European Studies
- closely cooperate with the Graduate School’s Professors (f/m) in Southeast European History and Social Anthropology
- pursue a postdoctoral research project
- teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
Requirements:
- above average graduate degree results (Master, German Diploma, State Examination or equivalent degree) as well as an excellent PhD in history or historical anthropology
- an innovative postdoctoral project
- teaching experience
- willingness to engage in interdisciplinary cooperation
- sufficient German language skills
- proficiency in at least one Southeast European language
- ability to work in a team
